London Riots July 2011
Tottenham. Enfield. Hackney. Peckham. Brixton. Walthamstow. Lewisham. The violence is spreading. Everything I want to say has already been said, so I’m going to share with you various opinions of these recent events.
I’m sickened.
"Metropolitan Police Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stephen Kavanagh said many officers have abandoned holiday plans to help cover the area." - Who says the police aren’t doing a good job? - JG
What is policing by consent?! It’s not working. Give the police the army support they need. We are quick to send forces to other countries when thy have unrest. This is a bit worse!! - RC
RIOT WOMBLES!!…. there are Riot Wombles cleaning up our cities…. friggin amazing!! I salute you awesome furry tidy-uppers :) - ME
Big thank you to all the emergency services that put themselves in the line of fire last night. You all did a sterling job, massively proud of and grateful to you all. Lets hope you get the back up and powers you need. - WM
Pansy-arse politicians really need to stop fooling themselves into thinking ‘policing by consent’ will work. How many people need to lose their lives and homes and jobs before they realise you cannot negotiate with terrorists. I’m sure their tune would change if their houses were burnt to the ground. - RC
Too many people find entertainment in mindless destruction. Shame on those who would demolish a community for a night of hedonistic violence, a free pair of trainers and a flat-screen television. - VS
I could go on and on with this, but there’s a few to be mindful about. What is your opinion? How do you think this will affect the London 2012 Games? Who are these brutes that are destroying their own community?
I am ashamed to say I live in England right now. I love my country, but not in this state. Bring out the water cannons.
